There's a bar for everyone in Connecticut, which is why we did our best to round up our personal faves.

I Know You Know - New Britain

Much like the New Britain neighborhood it is situated in, speakeasy’s are seeing a bit of a renaissance in Connecticut these days. The only way you can enter this trendy spot is by typing in the daily code posted on the bar’s instagram account. From there, open the bookcase in the corner and voila, you’re in! The rich decor and dim lighting create a cozy yet elegant ambience. Seating can be tricky on busy nights, but the massive main marble bar makes up for it. When you’re there be sure to ask the bartender for Attilio’s (the owner) specials!

Eli Cannons Tap Room - Middletown

Eli Cannon’s Taproom, or simply, “Eli’s”, is a beer lover's paradise. With over X craft beers on tap, Eli’s is the perfect ‘any time of day’ bar. Inside, knick-knacks and keepsakes decorate the walls and ceilings, giving off a warm homey vibe. Outside, you’ll find a sand filled patio with beach tables and chairs, perfect to enjoy on summer evenings. Although specializing in beers, Eli’s does a great job of catering to just about everyone. Its diverse menu and unique charm make it one of our favorite go-to spots in Connecticut.

Not far down the street from Eli Cannon’s lies a small, but mighty joint tucked underground. Celtic Cavern lives up to its name by truly making you feel like you're in an Irish pub. The intimate layout and underground aspect create a noisy, but electric experience. On the menu, you’ll find classic grub pub plates and craft beers and cocktails. But the trick to getting the most out of this tavern is simply getting in. Seating can be limited and almost always fills up, so plan accordingly if you plan on giving this place a shot. We promise, however, it will be well worth it.

Keeping with the theme of breweries, Dockside is surely a spot you don’t want to miss out on. Dockside is, well, located on a dock. Nestled along the Milford coast, this spot offers both indoor and outdoor seating. While the inside is lovely, this bar’s multi-level outdoor layout is what really makes it shine. In the summertime, sit at one of the many picnic tables to take in views of the harbor. In the winter, tables turn into igloos so you can enjoy the same views without being too chilly. Cornhole are also frequent along the brewery’s green. The combination of fun and unbeatable views make Dockside a must-visit bar along Connecticut’s shoreline.
